The Cedar and The Current Present: ONDARA: THE REBIRTH TOUR with Kiely Connell.

Though Ondara's third release Spanish Villager No: 3 was released in September 2022, May 25, 2023 will be his first proper celebratory performance in Minneapolis and his debut on The Cedar stage!

For recent Cedar Commission artist, Cydi Yang, "Soul Call'' is about reclaiming Self–healing through art, in connection to their traditional Hmong roots and fused with the influences of the modern world. This set of songs are words with younger/past Selves as they navigate difficult/traumatic times in Cydi's life which altered the way she moved in the world. It is to call Self back–to reclaim the parts of Cydi that have been lost during those life experiences. In utilizing the art forms of dancing, acting, poetry, music (rapping and singing) - Cydi tells a story about the healing journey.

Setting up the evening with their own songs of healing and reclamation are Alicia Thao and Mayda.

Storyhill is a modern folk duo that brings brotherly harmonies, infectious melodies and smart, story songs together in one perfect package. Their beautiful music and passionate performances have won them much critical acclaim and devoted fans (“Hill Heads”) all over the country. 

The Cedar welcomes old friends, Chris Cunningham and John Hermanson, celebrating over 30 years of playing together to our springtime stage.

The Cedar along with our partners the International Summer Institute for Reggae Studies at the University of Minnesota School of Music and the Organization for Strategic Development in Jamaica welcome EarthKry and International Reggae All -Stars! All the best vibes on our one love Cedar stage!

The Cedar welcomes this very special debut performance of the gorgeous duo, Daniel Volovets + Jireh Calo!

Daniel Volovets is a guitarist, composer, arranger, and instructor specializing in classical, flamenco, Latin-American, and jazz music. Balancing careers as a guitarist and physician while being one of the chief residents at the Hennepin-Regions Psychiatry Training Program this year! Joining Daniel in her debut Twin Cities appearance is Jireh Calo, a multi-awarded vocalist & multi-instrumentalist, composer, and arranger with an extensive and eclectic career as an international performing and recording artist. Her music embraces the spirit of freedom, improvisation and exploration and draws much inspiration from jazz traditions, sacred oral traditions, African and Latin Afro/Cuban rhythms, hip hop culture, soul music, and a variety of world music. Born and raised in Manila, Philippines and currently based in Boston, Jireh remains active today as an artist and music educator, performing and creating music while teaching and being deeply involved with her local and global community.

The Cedar and Tamu Events Present MINNEAPOLIS AFROBEATS DANCE PARTY III! The 2023 SPRING EDITION of the best afrobeats dance party in the city — featuring the contemporary African sound taking over the world. This edition features: local djs, SALIF KEITA of KFAI FM and KING SWANK, and performances by our beloved host FANAKA NATION and special guests including BERI!

The Cedar welcomes Iris DeMent back to celebrate her 7th new album, and to listen to her contemplations of external and internal issues of our world through her compelling voice with the inspiring Workin’ On A World. During the course of her celebrated career, the pioneering artist has continued to evolve as she thoughtfully touches on the critical moments in our lives. On Workin’ On A World, her songs are her way of healing our broken inner and outer spaces. Special guest Ana Egge supports this very special, contemplative, and entertaining performance.

On tour behind his new springtime release, The Cedar welcomes brilliant songwriter Robbie Fulks and his band to our stage.

The Cedar welcomes Daniel Rodriguez, the founding member of Colorado's Elephant Revival, back to our stage. Turning to his acoustic guitar for memorable, melodic hooks to accompany his poetic & contemplative folk songs, Daniel is touring in 2023 with the release of Vast Nothing.

The Cedar celebrates queer and non-binary singer-songwriter Willow Waters & her band The Earth Tones' premiere of a live rendition of their fresh new album The Friction I Demand. 

Like the countless variegated hues of a landscape, Willow Waters’ band The Earth Tones overflows with sonic abundance. Dancing lithely between rock and roll, country, folk, and jazz; bolstered by rich, intricate, and often surprising arrangements and instrumentation, their music exhibits exhaustive precision and delightful variety. And centering this vast array of orchestration is Willow’s singular voice — a voice that is grounding in timbre yet soaring in its revelations. Opening up the night, Bad Posture Club invites us to hear the power in quiet, intimate music, and offers warmth and reflection through song.
